NEWS: Yeti, Lulu & Friends present the 4th annual charity event!

YAY!!!! The day is almost here!!!!

QUICK REFERENCE:

Chrestomathy’s Ebay (Auction starts on Oct 12th, items loading all day)

Chrestomany’s Bigcartel Site for the sales portion (Oct 12th, 9am & 9pm)

This is my favorite time of year. The leaves are starting to fall, I can finally break out my favorite fall sweaters, scarves, nail polish and…… it’s time for the elevation polish annual charity event. This year is our 4th year and we couldn’t be more happy. I pulled all the favors I had and made some new ones to create a stellar lineup for this years event.

The event will be broken down into 3 sections.

  1. The auction portion (Oct 12-Oct 17th)
  2. The sales portion Morning (Oct 12th at 9AM)
  3. The sales portion Evening (Oct 12th at 9PM)

This year we decided to add the sales portion morning edition. So that our international friends can easily participate.

What all will be included in each portion?

The auction portion of the event will contain custom polishes from my polish making friends (previews later in the post), sets from friends, one of a kind samples from elevation, one of a kind elevation sets (Holo set, Haba set, Creme set, Gold shimmer set), Lulu’s favorite things set, past SBPs, and 2 of my last and final 2014 cosmoprof exclusive Yeti finds an Oasis, Previews of future colors (Ground control to major yeti). All auctions start at $10.00 USD.

The sales portion which will contain Elevation Polish Items will include new SBPs (small batch prototypes), a few one of a kind samples and a couple of Friends of Elevation Sets, Chrestomathy participant handmade greeting cards. The products will be divided 20% of the product inventory launching in the morning and 80% of item inventory launching in the evening. Both launches will contain the same items. Items for the sales portion will start at $9.00 USD so you can choose to give a little or a lot. Items will be available for preview starting Friday Oct 9th. There are no limits to what you can buy however we do ask that you kindly refrain from buying multiples of same item as to allows others to enjoy the products too.

What is the charity, how much of the proceeds go to charity and how is it donated?

The Charity is Chrestomathy, Inc. Chrestomathy is a local to me day training and habilitation service for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

All items are donated so that 100% of proceeds can go to Chrestomathy, Inc. Shipping costs will go toward actual shipping costs and shipping materials. We here at Elevation Polish are given brief access to Chrestomathy’s paypal account so we can process shipping and share how much we raised. So the money is always in their hands and not ours. 🙂

You can read more about Chrestomathy, Inc and how we’ve done this event in the past, here in my last post.

Can’t wait to make a donation?

YAY! Thank you! Hop on over to chrestomathy’s website and make a direct donation via paypal. Every little bit makes a huge difference.
Chrestomathy’s Inc’s website

Can we get a sneak peek?

I’ve been previewing items on instagram under the hashtag #evp4ci2015 and I’m really excited to share the amazing turn out of friends who donated polishes when I asked for help. Huge thank you to all the polish makers who helped me with a cause that is so near to my heart. This is just a preview there are more items I don’t have pictures of yet. SQWEEEEEE!

YAY!!! I hope you all are as excited as I am!!! Hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Lulu

NEWS: Elevation Polish 4th Annual Auction and Sales for Charity

Lulu, Yeti and Friends presents…..

The Elevation Polish 4th Annual Auction and Sales for charity.

Indies most certainly do it better!!!! Why you might ask?

Aside from making the best creative polishes, having great customer service and passion for what we do. We have huge hearts and do what we can to support our local community. So what happens when you’ve got a lone polish maker with dream to go big with her annual charity event and mix that up with a community of makers who want to help…. You get the most amazing line up to date! OMGoodness it’s amazing! The polishes and the makers in this years event is crazy. (Great friends and ones I’ve never worked with before!) I can’t wait to share some of the polishes with you all. I’m overwhelmed with all the generosity and love polish makers have shared with me. I get to pass on to you and then pass that on to Chrestomathy, Inc.

It’s going to be an amazing year! So let’s talk details. For those of you who aren’t familiar with how I run the event. I break it down into two events. A sales portion which has reasonably priced items ($12.00-$40.00) and then the auction portion (Bids start at $10.00). So it’s easy to give a little or to give a lot. Either way you participate, you’ll be mailed off a fabulous polish with 100% of the sales and/or auction prices going to Chrestomathy, Inc.

Who is Chrestomathy, Inc?
Chrestomathy is a day training and habilitation service for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The three program sites are located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and in the nearby suburbs of Eden Prairie and Burnsville, MN. Unlike most other programs serving my area, Chrestomathy is a specialized and relatively small company. Founded in 1985, their success can be attributed to our commitment to excellence, our commitment to working with individuals with complex needs and their positive, proactive approach to working with the individuals they serve.

Read more about Chrestomathy, Inc on their website

Why is this Chrestomathy important to me (Lulu)?
I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of this great service for many years. Linda L. Moore is the executive director, a psychologist, founder of Chrestomathy, and she just so happens to also be my mother in law. Over the 15+ years I’ve had the pleasure of helping chrestomathy with little odd jobs here and there. I’ve personally heard and seen the challenges of both the clients they serve and also the intricacies of running a program like this. Seeing clients have positive experiences first hand and over coming challenges, it’s amazing. I’m so proud to be able to say that Elevation Polish has made a positive mark on a few clients.

Donations past
2013, We were able to donate $9,895.00. Which went directly into the clients hands via iPads. iPads are a unique, creative and amazing way for non-verbal clients to express themselves and their needs. Communication at a touch of a screen! While we all take communication for granted watching someone who was unable to communicate effectively, how they are feeling and then suddenly be able to is one of the most amazing sights in the world. I’ll take that sight over a mountain any day! In 2014, we decided to donate toward the same thing, iPads. We raised $7,401.94. That was a lot of iPads. We showed the iPads we purchased on Instagram.
If you want to check out the donation pages from years passed here are links (I can’t seem to find the blog post with 2012)
2013
2014 (Scroll to Nov 7th, 2014)

This year we are going big. We want to be able to provide something truly special for Chrestomathy, Inc this year. The big donation this year will go toward multiple things, site improvements, more communication devices (iPads) and hopefully something even bigger if we can hit the target we are hoping for. Like always I’ll share the donation amount on my blog and/or Facebook and also show what your donations went to.

WHEN:
October 12th will be the sales portion
October 12th-October 17th will be the auction portion

WHERE:
Sales portion will be held on a dedicated big cartel site with a 10 minute cart hold
Chrestomathy, Inc’s Bigcartel (Link will be active closer to the date so they don’t have to pay for the months not in use)
The auction portion will take place on eBay just like last year
Chrestomathy, Inc’s Ebay Account

Just a couple of notes about the event:

  • Customer Service for the event will be handled by us (elevation polish) If you have questions please direct your emails to elevationpolish <at> gmail
  • The paypal account used for the event is the Chrestomathy, Inc one. We’ve been given brief access to it so we can process shipping.
  • Shipping supplies have been provided by us (Elevation Polish) so the money normally used for that can go toward the eBay fees.
  • Items from the eBay event can not combine with items from the bigcartel shop. (two different sites, hard as heck to combine)
  • FAQ for the event (coming soon) will be on www.elevationpolish.com on the left hand menu.

Want to send a shout out to the mountain tops to all of my customers for always opening their hearts and their pocketbooks for amazing causes like this one. It means so much to me that your share your kind hearts and generosity with me.

Don’t want to wait to make a donation to Chrestomathy, Inc….

YAY!!!!! This is going to be amazing. I’ll be sharing little sneak “peaks” on my instagram account with the hashtag #elevationpolish & #EVP4CI2015 (EVP 4 CI 2015 all together.) Stay up to date about the progress of the event on our Facebook page.

Lulu’s Cosmoprof (CPNA) overview, through an indie makers eyes

Hi Everyone

I have a different kind of post for you today. I wanted to share with you all my experience at Cosmoprof North America (CPNA) Convention. For those who don’t know Cosmoprof is a business-to-business beauty trade show event in North America. Held each year in Las Vegas, NV. This was my second year going. I wanted to share what it is like through my eyes. Each person has their own experience and takes away different things from the events. Experiences may vary. Overall, I would say it was again a positive experience.

This year I decided to do things a little differently. There wasn’t a whole lot to do at the convention itself, me myself being a manufacturer, the convention really isn’t catered to me. It’s aimed more toward press and buyers. I wasn’t displaying at the event proper so I didn’t end up going to the show floor. However, it didn’t mean I wasn’t busy. Oh no, on the contrary. This was the busiest year for me and a big year for indies.

Shine and Social 2015, Candid photo

Day 1: The most exciting day for me. This year I had the pleasure of being able to host Shine and Social 2015. The previous host Jennifer (Wonder Beauty Products) allowed me with my co-host Shannon (Pahlish) to take over. Shine and Social 2015 was geared toward meeting and greeting bloggers and indie makers the day before the show floor opened. Last year we didn’t know anybody and it was nice to have an event before the convention to put faces to names. That way when we saw people out and about we knew who they were and could say hello.

Me (Lulu), Shannon (Pahlish) and Jennifer (Wonder beauty products)

It was a fabulous event we hosted at the Four Seasons press lounge. The turn out was amazing. I really enjoyed catching up with old friends, fellow makers, familiar bloggers and some new ones. I got pretty welled up at the turn out for our event. It really means a great deal to me that so many indie bloggers and brands showed up. It showed, that us indies mean business and can take things seriously while still showing our special brand of uniqueness and fun. To keep things even more fun we held a raffle for some amazing prizes. Huge thank you to the sponsors of the giveaway items.

Secretly, well not so secretly, I wish I weren’t hosting so I could have won any number of the prizes. They all went to great people. I can’t wait to see how they utilize the prizes. My second time nearing well up was during Shannon’s speech to say thank you to all the attendees. Sometimes when your in the thick of business you forget to thank the people who make our businesses such a success. The bloggers who put so much effort into their posts with pictures, reviews and emails and to the husbands who put up with always talking about polishes and also for the husbands who support our businesses and are really involved. It was really a heart felt speech. I’m so glad shannon made the speech because I’m too much of a shy, sap to make public speeches like that.

Huge Thank you to Shannon who is always the ying to my yang. Our strong points always compliment each others. We can now check off another great adventure together.

Shannon (Pahlish) and Nate (Emerald and Ash) finally figuring out a selfie stick

Day 2: After a late night of reflection and great company (really how many people does it take to figure out how a selfie stick works, LOL).

It was on to the second indie event the next day. This one was serious business. Cocktails and Colors. Hosted by Jill (Glisten & Glow), Sara (Cupcake Polish), Missi (Different Dimensions) and Linda (Nail Vinyls). The highlight event for indies and indie nail bloggers. Hosted at Addiction Bar, Rumor Boutique Hotel. This is where us makers got to display our products, share stories of our brands, share up coming collections. The swag bags (for bloggers and media) for this event were of the epic variety. Everyone put in the best of the best of their products for media to take home. The indie displays this year were amazing!!!! I mean indie brought their A-game for their displays putting the big brands to shame (at least I felt that way) Glowing lights, big displays, gorgeous products everywhere. Honestly, I could look anywhere in the room at the displays and see polishes I wanted on my nails ASAP. The hosts did an amazing job, every detail you could tell was well thought out.

Elevation Polish Display at Cocktails and Colors 2015

Pam’s Display (Girly Bits Cosmetics) at cocktails and colors 2015

For me the event really solidified how much our community has grown, how lively we all are, and how polish really brings people together. For instance, I finally got to meet someone face to face that I’ve known on the internet for some time now. Gosia from Life in Color between her and I we have travelled the world and climbed in some pretty amazing places. She is someone who has seen a lot of places I’ve seen and even named polishes after. You may remember I did a guest post on her blog while she was away climbing everest (yup, everest and she even summited!) Again, the sap that I am, got really sentimental talking with her.

Me (Lulu) and Gosia (Life in Color) at Shine and Social 2015

Even still the gals that I met last year it was great to catch up with. So many brands and blogs have grown this past year. It was so nice to share in the excitement of everything we all have accomplished and will accomplish this year. The night ended in candid moments, friends, and lounging, oh and pancakes evening wouldn’t have been complete without 4 am pancakes with Shannon (Pahlish) and Pam (Girly Bits Cosmetics). I couldn’t think of a better ending.

Day 3 and 4: Tearful goodbyes to those who had to leave early and those faces I won’t see again for another year. Also a rare moment. I took my maker hat off for the day and became not Lulu of elevation polish but assistant to one of my favorite bloggers. Ida of Ida Nails it. She is going to be a busy busy blogger. I helped her for the day. Helping take pictures, and put together a huge box to ship home to her. It was an amazing role reversal since she always helps me. I also spent a good deal of time cleaning up the whirl wind that was my hotel room. Water bottles everywhere… I mean everywhere. LOL I got a little time to enjoy some personal tasks like great music, roaming The Wynn and hunting down one of my favorite handbag companies flagship stores. Ashley and Nate of Emerald and Ash joined me for the day.

Flower Balls at the Wynn Gardens

Secret Waterfall at the Wynn

Day 5: Most other people had left but I usually stay behind a day to gather my thoughts, reflect and relax. Jill, Sara, Missi and Linda adopted me for the day. They like always are amazing and gracious not only extending their host duties to one night but several nights. Without them I wouldn’t have gotten those last couple of laughs in before returning home.

Overall, my experience was great. What I took away is friendships built upon, great polishes in the works, memories not soon forgotten, and many lucks given to all who work hard and put their all into doing what they love. I’m so glad that I can share my passion with others who understand all facets of what we put into our businesses.

I hope you all enjoyed a glimpse into the life of. 🙂 Want to see more (more professional non-Lulu photos, LOL) check out the hashtags #shineandsocial2015 #cocktailsandcolors2015 #colorsandcocktails2015 #CPNA #Cosmoprofna

Cheers to great polishes,

❤ Lulu

Sneak “Peak” February’s Minneapolish Collection

Hello Everyone

Today I’ve got a special preview for you. As many of you know Elevation Polish Headquarters is in Minnesota. Minneapolis has a special place in our hearts as it is our home. This collection shares my love of the city and my favorite places within it. If you get an opportunity please google the names see what amazing surprises Minneapolis has to offer. It’s such a great city to love, live and play in.

Lake of the Isles
One of my favorite spots to take a walk. I can just get lost rounding the lakes over and over. Bright blue cornflower. The finish type is new to elevation it is what we are calling a “Gelly” First coat goes on streaky the second coat evens it out. It dries to a very high shine like a gel polish but has the depth that a jelly provides.

The Walker
One of my favorite museums in minneapolis. It’s uniquely designed along with the art that is housed within it. The building it self is silver so where did I draw my inspiration from? The sun hits it just right and it has a cool sparkly metallic finish. Given the right sun I see elements of purple. Pair them together and you’ve got a bright purple holographic.

St. Anthony Falls
White jelly base with a blend of gunmetal glitter and multi-color, multi-sized iridescent glitter. This is also a  first for elevation polish. We haven’t had a production version of a white jelly based glitter yet. 3 coats thinly applied will do the trick. It reminds me of St Anthony Falls in the winter. Snow all around, a beautiful peaceful sounding manmade waterfall trapped in the heart of the city.

Mill City Ruins
One of the best hidden gems in the city. They managed to keep the past alive by showcasing it and building within it. This is the first thermal polish for elevation. It’s super subtle in it’s hot/cold change. It goes from a darker olive drab to a lighter one. it’s got loads of gold shimmers and gold flake shimmers in it. It’s thinner than most elevations but 3 light thin coats for full coverage. Like most thermals the shelf life for the thermal change is about 6 months, after that it will stay the beautiful color pictured here.

Theo Wirth Parkway
Jewel toned green with multi colored shimmers along with silver shimmers. The park that inspired the polish is easy to experience both driving through it and wondering the plentiful paths. It’s easy to be inspired by such a beautiful place that is full of natures beauty.

Yeti hides in the mini apple
Why wouldn’t yeti hide in Minneapolis (nickname: The Mini Apple)? With all these amazing places to hide, lakes, urban forests, plenty of snow. I bet he has been hiding in my back yard the whole time. Lol. Bright cherry red holographic with a slight hint of red/gold shimmer.

So what do you think of my home town? Can you see why it’s so easy to be inspired here. 🙂 This collection will be launching Feb. 7th, 2015 (9PM, central) with a restock on Feb 22nd (9AM, central.) Yeti hides in the mini apple will only be available during the month of February.

Cheers to great places and great polishes,
❤ Lulu

Notes about SBPs & Samples

Hi Everyone

I just got back from PBA Cosmoprof’s convention in las vegas. I got to meet loads of amazing bloggers and nail polish makers. I’ll talk more about this in the next post coming up later today.

It has been brought to my attention that there have been discussions going on in some of the fan groups. I wanted to address this as best I could and share my point of view, as the stress about this has been making my stomach ache.

The topic of discussion: The increase recently in resellers swooping in and buying to resell SBPs, Samples and limited release polishes and their practices, keeping the polishes out of the hands and sometimes financial reach of fans.

I’m going to say my point of view and not everyone will agree with me but that is ok.
Yes, it’s not fun that polishes are being kept away from the fans. I want all my fans to get these limited release polishes. There will never be a way to keep resellers out of my shop. The only thing I can do is to just stop selling these items completely. I don’t want to do that, nor do I think it’s the best option. We are going to think of different options that might hinder the reselling process and not make it so attractive.

I’m going to ask a huge favor of the fans out there. By buying polishes from the resellers, it is driving the market. Please choose not to participate, I know that is a hard thing to ask. I encourage you all to swap, if something isn’t your cup of tea or if you are in search of a particular SBP or sample. The nail polish swapping community is a great one. There are so many people who might have polishes you want and you might have something they want. If you need to sell for any reason, keep your prices as close to on par to what I offer them for (+ shipping and paypal fees, etc). It might take a little bit but over time people might get the idea that price gouging, and reselling for profit isn’t ok.

I see thee as my “B level polishes” There has been so much focus on these polishes that people forget I come out with a new collection every month that is carefully cultivated, well thought out, My A level polishes, and most of the time they are available without the stress of a restock. My heart and soul is in those polishes. Let’s put the focus back on those.

I do encourage the fan groups to continue to discuss this and options that might appeal to all the fans.

Cheers,
Lulu

Restock News: Shipping Notices & Secret Yeti Polishes

Hi Everyone

I’ve got loads of emails in my inbox. I thought I would tackle a couple of the main questions on my blog here.

Shipping notices: We are using a new order management system. This system prints out postage for an entire days worth of orders. More postage labels then we can actually pack in a days work. This means that while you may have a tracking number, your order might not be processed and handed off to the post office for a couple of days.
We are still packing up orders from the 7th of the month restock. This is pretty typical for 7th of the month restocks. It takes us (us being 2 people) several days to process shipping, sometimes up to 7 business days (this doesn’t count weekends) We try not to take that long but it happens sometimes.

Yeti Polishes: We here at elevation polish are huge fans of sneaky fun treats. We tend to do this once a year. Special surprise polishes. Just to say thank you. It’s you the fans that really keep me inspired.  There were 3 secret yeti polishes given away for the 7th of the month restock only.

  • Ninja Yeti– for customers who ordered 3 or more polishes
  • Yeti was a good ninja- for orders that were $80.00+
  • Yeti was a shadow- for orders 100+ and/or because we ran out of good ninja and ninja yeti
  • Foam throwing star- given out randomly. So you can throw them at your hubbies, boyfriends, etc…
  • In rare cases, some people got 2 polishes, these were given out at random, and yes even international gals are included in this.

We won’t spoil the surprise on the details of the colors. Please note these colors won’t be for sale. They were only for orders on the 7th, or while supplies lasted. Hurtful emails will not be responded to. This was intended to be a fun freebie.

I hope you all have has much fun with yeti’s awesome adventures as I do. He really is the adventurous spirit and unofficial mascot of elevation polish. He has some pretty cool adventures in the future line up. Check out the future colors page on elevationpolish.com to see where he will go next. Elevation’s Future colors page

Cheers to great polishes,
❤ Lulu
